Chapter 11: UnDead Girl by Stephen Simpson
“You
want me! You’ll always want me!” She wrapped her arms around his neck and
pulled him closer to her. Their lips were almost touching.
Genesis knew she should not be standing there gawking at
them and took a step back.
Genesis could not look away from his deep blue eyes.
The girl let go of him and took a few steps back. She asked
with a nasty tone in her voice, “Are you sure you don’t want me?”
Genesis ripped her eyes away from his and stumbled
backwards.
The girl made a sound which sounded a lot like a snarl as
she whirled her body around to face Genesis. At the same instant, Genesis
turned and ran down the hallway to the right.
She expected them to come after her, so she kept running
until she reached the end of the hallway and stumbled into the large room Finn
had described.
“Genesis,
are you all right?” Finn was standing behind her, looking at her with total
confusion. “Why are you running?”
“I…
I…” Genesis could not think of a good enough reason. “I just got a little
freaked out,” she finally managed to say.
“Come.
Everyone’s here, except for Eli and Amelia.”
Genesis pondered his name. Eli. What was that look between
them?
“Genesis?”
“Yes,”
she barely whispered.
Finn studied her for a little while before she said, “Did
you meet anyone on the way here?”
“No.
I’m just a little nervous meeting everyone.”
Finn’s smile was kind. “All will be well, Genesis. Now let
me introduce you.”
Finn led the way through the large reception room to a
glistening, white door at the far end of the room. After she pushed the door
open, she stepped aside to let Genesis walk into the room.
Six young people, the same age as Genesis, were standing in
a group with four adults in white lab coats. She could hear the deceptively
normal sound of their voices as they talked and asked questions. Every one of
them was incredibly good-looking, and they all had the same snow-white hair as
Genesis.
They all turned to face the door and was looking directly at
her. Genesis wanted to crawl under the nearest desk and stay there for a long,
long time, but she smiled and tried to appear friendly.
“Sorry
we’re late,” Finn apologised. “This is Genesis, and in case you forgot since we
met last, I am Finn.”
For a second, Genesis did not think anyone was going to say
anything, until a girl stepped away from the group. She had a tiny frame, her
blue eyes looked too big in her little face, and her white hair was short. “Hi,
Genesis. Welcome to our new home.” Her smile was warm and genuine. “I’m
Crystal,” she said.
Genesis returned her friendly smile and said, “Hi, Crystal.”
She invited Genesis, as she took a step backwards, “Come stand here next to me. We’re just waiting for Eli and Amelia, then these four scientific looking people are going to explain everything. I don’t know about the parents who raised you, but mine made a complete mess up of the how and why when they told me yesterday.”
